Character changes Merapi volcano Interesting World

Changes in the character of Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta post-2010 pulls the volcano eruption site to investigate further. Some volcanologists world will join Indonesian researchers, including from Europe, Japan, and the United States.
"Research Dome Merapi will begin in 2013," said Head of Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Surono, Wednesday (12/19/2012). Initiator research is PVMBG-Geological Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources with the International Research for Development, France.
"From Indonesia, apart from PVMBG, we invite experts from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology)," he said.
Surono said, the research team will focus on studying the subsurface Merapi tomography method. Additionally, it will be studied Merapi gas emissions such as CO2 and SO2. Knowledge is expected to learn the character of the eruption of Merapi to come.
Earlier, during 2007-2010, the research at Merapi has focused on efforts to study the Merapi disaster risks, aspects of socialization, training, and disaster risk maps. "This time we focus on the matter of geophysical, geochemical, and geological monitoring systems to strengthen Merapi," he said.
Merapi is one of Indonesia's volcano that erupted changed its character since 2010. Besides Merapi, which has changed is Mount Lokon in North Sulawesi erupted continuously since July 2011.
Changes in the character of the volcano, according to Surono, requiring changes in monitoring. Misread the changing character of the volcano can be fatal because of anticipation.
Head of Research and Technology Development Agency volcano Geological Su-bandriyo said before the 2010 eruption of Merapi usually begins with the demolition of the lava dome and terminated stoppage. After the 2010 eruption, the lava dome that formed small so often seen a puff of smoke. "Once Merapi much do incandescent lava, now puff of smoke," he said. (AIK)
